I was aware that Singapore is about shopping. And not only as the number three tourist attraction like in KL, no, here it is number one, again according to the tourist map. “Visitors [sic] map Singapore – Shop, Dine, See”. Bad traveller as I am I had turned around the order. I saw Chinatown yesterday already, had then to dine first just to survive. And today only I would start seeing. Singapore (I) Arrived
The last photo subdirectory is created…/Pics/SG/Singapore; I’ve arrived at my last stop before finishing my travel. And that without trouble, in fact, was a very smooth ride with AeroLine, a warm recommendation! You have to register, but then can book online and just need to show up 30 minutes before departure to get your ticket. KL – SIN for just 80 MYR (16,40 EUR) in a super comfortable business coach. Kuala Lumpur (II) Night & Lake Gardens
Good idea to save Lake Gardens for today: It was Sunday and a sunny day! Which also meant: It got a bit hot. From sheer force of habbit I was wearing my long pants, no good idea. But I found a way of rolling the legs up without them sliding down every 10 meters. Continue reading Kuala Lumpur (II) Night & Lake Gardens
Kuala Lumpur (I) Mix of Cultures
I have arrived in Kuala Lumpur as planned by bus, done my first land border crossing. While the travel includes some bits and pieces worth telling it was eventually no hassle at all. Except for arriving before dawn in heavy monsoon rain… Continue reading Kuala Lumpur (I) Mix of Cultures
Ao Nang (II) Ko Phi Phi twice
The last two actual vacation days in Thailand: Together with Rafael I went for Ko Phi Phi, this ‘famous’ island off Krabi and Phuket. And a day later, when Rafael and Petra were on their way back to Bangkok, I did a last day of diving, again off Ko Phi Phi. Ko Phi Phi became especially famous after the movie “The Beach” had been produced on one of the beaches of Ko Phi Phi, although the book itself (I’m reading it at the moment) describes an island on Thailand’s east coast, off Ko Samui. Ao Nang (I) 4 Islands
Ao Nang is a beach near Krabi on the Thai mainland. Krabi was on our list of places to visit. Rafael and Petra actually have flights back to Bangkok from there, so we had to get (near) there anyway. And Ao Nang was a recommendation we got on Ko Samui (from the guy who helped me home after my successful experience of the gap in the time continuum). Continue reading Ao Nang (I) 4 Islands
Phuket (II) Scuba Diving
?Yea…diving again! Finally in Kata on Phuket I took my chance. And it was a very good deed. Great feeling to be under water again! I had no clear recommendations in the end on where to book in Kata. I ended up with Nautilus, which had a mentioning in Petra’s guidebook. Questions asked were correct, equippment good and well-maintained, too. And while sitting at dinner in the evening at ‘our’ restaurant (it was raining again and we had no intentions of getting wet searching for another place) a Thai lady dropped and handed me a note from Nautilus that my pick-up time next morning had changed. The only thing I would have liked to informed upfront is that I was booked on a non-Nautilus boat. Fine…with so few divers as right now it does not make sense that each dive shop sends their own ships to all sites. It would have just been easier to find the right people at the harbor. I was not prepared to look for M/V Similan people… Continue reading Phuket (II) Scuba Diving
Phuket (I) The Island
Phuket, probably the most popular name amongst Thai vacation sites. But in short: I liked Ko Samui a lot better for beach vacation. Diving is a different story…see next article! 😉
We had avoided the most popular place, Patong, and probably for good reasons. When driving through it was busy, noisy, touristy. Continue reading Phuket (I) The Island
Ko Samui (II) Rainy
Monday, 29-OCT
There are apparently contradicting information about the end of the raining season. Or somebody forgot to inform the weather. Whatever the problem was: It rained. More or less intensive basically all day. After some back and forth we decided to rent a car to get around the island. While I would originally have preferred a smaller sedan car just because driving in a foreign country with left-sided traffic is enough of a change, the agent as well as the owner of Utopia strongly suggested to take an off-roader. Lucky we listened to them…we needed it, despite not getting off any road. Continue reading Ko Samui (II) Rainy
Ko Samui (I) Sunny
Ko Samui, one of Thailand’s most famous beach islands. And we are there! And in the beginning we even had a bit of luck with the weather. But as I am writing this it is actually a tiny bit chilly…see the next article.
